INTERESTED IN RESEARCHING A WOMAN FILM PIONEER?

The Women Film Pioneers Sourcebook Vol.II (University of Illinois Press) will contain information about women who worked in the film industries throughout the world, but excluding the US, during the silent era. Vol.I will cover the US and Latin America.

The Sourcebook will include primary sources and its goal is to jumpstart the research on early women in the international film industry – to encourage further historical research as well as theoretical work.

A number of researchers are currently working on entries for some of the British women film pioneers to be included in this publication. The letters (SB) identify these researchers on the Homepages of individual women pioneers listed on this site.

Contributors to the Sourcebook are still being sought. If you are a researcher and would like to write the entry for a particular woman film pioneer who worked in the British film industry during the silent era, please send us an email via the Contact Us page stating your interest.

Please note that actresses will not be dealt with in this volume unless they were also involved in the filmmaking process or the film industry more generally (i.e. as director, producer, editor, scenario writer, continuity girl, costume or set designer, critic…).
