Née Ivy Lilian Close

Actor, Producer (Ivy Close Films)

Ivy married photographer/director Stuart Elwin Neame in 1910. She was the mother of director Ronald Neame (b. 1911) and author Derek Neame (b. 1915).

With Elwin Neame, she set up Ivy Close Films in early 1914. According to Geoffrey Macnab, Close ‘was one of the first stars anywhere to set up on her own: Ivy Close Films predated United Artists (the independent Hollywood company formed by Chaplin, Pickford, Griffith and Fairbanks) by five years’ (Searching for Stars (London and New York: Cassell, 2000), p. 15.)
