WOMEN AND SILENT BRITISH CINEMA has been created to collate and share research being undertaken on women and cinema in Britain during the silent era. As well as making up a large part of the cinema audience, it is now widely recognised that women played an important role in the development of the British film industry. Read more about this site or click here to find out more about some of the women working in the various branches of British silent cinema. ————————————————————————————————————- LONDON FILM FESTIVAL BFI ARCHIVE GALA SCREENING – The First Born (1928) The First Born, co-scripted by Alma Reville, is the BFI National Archive Gala screening at the 55th BFI London Film Festival at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on 20th October at 7:30pm. The film has been restored by the BFI and is several minutes longer than the version previously shown in London and Pordenone. Madeleine Carroll stars as the neglected wife of caddish would-be politician Miles Mander, and resorts to desperate measures to give him an heir.
